Crime Trackers Massachusetts commends the work of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies following the guilty plea of Marc Sanchez, 31, of Lowell, who admitted in federal court in Boston to distributing cocaine base (crack cocaine) and illegally possessing two loaded firearms as a convicted felon.
Sanchez pleaded guilty to two counts of distribution of and possession with intent to distribute 28 grams or more of cocaine base and one count of being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition. U.S. District Court Judge Julia E. Kobick has scheduled sentencing for September 17, 2026. Sanchez was arrested and federally charged in October 2025 and has remained in federal custody since his arrest.
Federal investigators identified Sanchez as a crack cocaine distributor operating out of his apartment in Lowell. According to court documents, on September 17, 2025, a cooperating witness arranged to purchase an ounce and a half of crack cocaine from Sanchez. Before completing the transaction, investigators observed Sanchez meeting with an unknown drug supplier in a vehicle outside his apartment building to obtain powder cocaine. Sanchez then returned to his apartment with the cooperating witness, where he “cooked” the powder cocaine into crack cocaine, separated and weighed the narcotics, and completed the sale.
Investigators also determined that Sanchez used telephone numbers and vehicles registered in other people’s names while distributing crack cocaine in an apparent effort to conceal his criminal activity. Court documents further revealed that Sanchez had at least four outstanding arrest warrants connected to open criminal cases in Derry District Court in New Hampshire and in the Boston, Lawrence, and Lowell District Courts in Massachusetts.
According to prosecutors, on September 25, 2025, Sanchez again produced and sold an ounce and a half of crack cocaine to the cooperating witness from his apartment. Approximately one week later, on October 1, 2025, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at the apartment. During the search, investigators recovered additional cocaine, drug-coated cookware used in the manufacturing process, drug packaging materials, more than $3,000 in cash, and two loaded 9mm handguns secured inside a safe.
Federal authorities also noted that Sanchez has multiple felony convictions and previously served more than two years in a Massachusetts state prison during 2018 and 2019. As a convicted felon, he was prohibited under federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition.
Crime Trackers Massachusetts recognizes the extensive investigative work required to dismantle drug trafficking operations that not only distribute illegal narcotics but also involve illegally possessed firearms. Cases involving armed drug traffickers present significant risks to law enforcement officers and to the communities in which these crimes occur. The successful investigation of this case demonstrates the effectiveness of undercover operations, confidential cooperating witnesses, surveillance, search warrants, and coordinated law enforcement efforts.
This case also highlights the dangerous relationship between illegal drug trafficking and firearms. Drug dealers who illegally possess loaded weapons increase the potential for violence, endanger innocent residents, and create additional risks for responding police officers. Removing both narcotics and illegally possessed firearms from the streets helps make neighborhoods safer while disrupting criminal organizations that profit from addiction.
Crime Trackers Massachusetts also recognizes the work of the investigators, undercover personnel, prosecutors, forensic specialists, and support staff whose efforts helped build a strong federal case. Cases such as this require patience, detailed evidence collection, and close cooperation among multiple law enforcement agencies to ensure successful prosecutions.
While aggressive enforcement remains essential, Crime Trackers Massachusetts continues to support a comprehensive approach to addressing illegal drug activity that also includes prevention, education, addiction treatment, mental health resources, and recovery services. Individuals who knowingly manufacture and distribute dangerous narcotics while illegally possessing firearms must continue to be held fully accountable under the law.
Crime Trackers Massachusetts encourages anyone with information regarding illegal drug trafficking or illegal firearms possession to report suspicious activity to their local law enforcement agency. Community partnerships continue to play a vital role in identifying criminal activity and helping investigators remove dangerous offenders from our neighborhoods.
As this case moves toward sentencing on September 17, Crime Trackers Massachusetts will continue supporting the dedicated law enforcement officers, prosecutors, and investigators who work every day to combat drug trafficking, reduce violent crime, remove illegal firearms from the streets, and protect the people of the Commonwealth.
