Crime Trackers Massachusetts extends our deepest condolences to the entire Boston EMS family, along with the loved ones, friends, and colleagues of Superintendent-in-Chief John Gill following his passing.
Chief Gill dedicated nearly four decades of his life to serving the people of Boston through Boston EMS, building a legacy defined by leadership, professionalism, loyalty, and an unwavering commitment to public service. From beginning his career in 1986 to rising through the ranks as a Paramedic, Deputy Superintendent, and ultimately Superintendent-in-Chief, he represented the very best of emergency medical services and public safety leadership.
Throughout his career, Chief Gill earned the respect of countless EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, police officers, dispatchers, nurses, doctors, and first responders across the Commonwealth. His dedication to operational excellence, mentorship, and the mission of protecting and caring for others left a lasting impact not only within Boston EMS, but throughout the entire first responder community.
Chief Gill’s influence extended far beyond his daily responsibilities. As a founding member of the Boston EMS Honor Guard and a key figure in establishing the Boston EMS Relief Association, he helped strengthen the traditions, culture, and brotherhood of the department for generations to come. His years of service as a union Chief Steward further demonstrated his commitment to standing beside his fellow members and advocating for those who served alongside him.
Those who worked with Chief Gill knew him as a respected leader, a steady presence during difficult moments, and someone who carried both professionalism and a sharp sense of humor throughout his career. His institutional knowledge, guidance, and leadership will leave a void that cannot easily be filled.
Today, the public safety community mourns alongside Boston EMS. We honor a man who devoted his life to serving others and to the City of Boston — the city he proudly called home.
From all of us at Crime Trackers Massachusetts, we thank Superintendent-in-Chief John Gill for his extraordinary service, sacrifice, and commitment to the people of Massachusetts.
Rest in peace, Chief.
End of Watch.
