All participants in the Basic Massachusetts Police Recruit Preparation Program are expected to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, integrity, and personal responsibility. This Code of Conduct establishes the behavioral expectations required for participation in a live-in, academy-style training environment.
Failure to comply with this Code of Conduct may result in corrective action or immediate dismissal from the program.
Professional Conduct
Participants shall conduct themselves in a professional and respectful manner at all times. Participants shall follow all lawful orders from instructors and staff promptly and without argument. Integrity, honesty, accountability, and professionalism are required in all actions and communications. Participants shall use appropriate language and respect the chain of command.
Respect and Harassment Policy
Participants must treat all individuals with dignity and respect. Harassment, discrimination, intimidation, or retaliation of any kind will not be tolerated. This applies to conduct related to race, color, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, or any other protected status. Violations may result in immediate dismissal.
Substance Abuse Policy
The program maintains a zero-tolerance policy for substance abuse. Participants shall not possess, use, or distribute illegal drugs. Alcohol possession or consumption during the program is prohibited. Participants shall not report to training under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Drug or alcohol testing may be conducted at any time.
Weapons and Safety
Only training weapons and equipment authorized by the program are permitted. Personal firearms, ammunition, knives, or weapons are prohibited unless specifically authorized by program administration. All safety rules must be followed during firearms training, physical training, and defensive tactics. Unsafe conduct may result in immediate removal from training activities or dismissal.
Appearance, Uniforms, and Inspections
Participants must maintain grooming and appearance standards consistent with police academy expectations. Assigned uniforms must be worn as directed. Rooms, lockers, and equipment must be kept clean and inspection-ready at all times. Failure to meet standards may result in corrective action.
Attendance and Accountability
Participants must report on time for all formations, classes, and training events. Participants must remain at the training facility unless authorized to leave. Illness, injury, or emergencies must be reported immediately to staff. Unauthorized absences, tardiness, or failure to report may result in disciplinary action or dismissal.
Integrity and Honesty
Participants shall not falsify documents, records, applications, or reports. Providing false or misleading information, cheating, or any form of dishonesty is prohibited and may result in immediate dismissal from the program.
Discipline and Dismissal
Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in verbal counseling, written reprimand, corrective training, suspension, or dismissal. The level of discipline imposed will be determined by program administration. Dismissal decisions are final and not subject to appeal.
Acknowledgment
Participation in the program constitutes acknowledgment and acceptance of this Code of Conduct. Participants are responsible for understanding and complying with all program rules, policies, and expectations.
