On Sunday, December 21st, Springfield Police Academy recruits, under the direction of Lieutenant Eleni Barbieri, made several stops throughout the day to spread holiday cheer in the community.

In the morning, recruits began the day by donating children’s books they selected for the Springfield YWCA women’s shelter. Recruits also donated non-perishable food items to Mary, Our Mother of Hope Parish on Page Boulevard to support their spaghetti dinner for families in need.

Partnering with BJ’s at Springfield Crossing, the recruits later held a toy donation drive. With support from members of the community, four cruisers were filled with donated toys. The toys were then delivered to the Springfield United Toy Drive at the MassMutual Center, where they will be distributed to children in the community.

The current Springfield Police Academy class is scheduled to graduate in May.

“These efforts reflect the commitment of the recruits and their leadership to engage with and support the community beyond their training,” said Tiffany Williams, Director of Crime Trackers Massachusetts. “Their involvement in these charitable activities highlights the positive role they play while preparing to serve.”
